Area-wide regeneration is a holistic approach aimed at improving the Upper Springfield area. It focuses on improved road infrastructure,
upgrading housing, developing new housing, enhancing public spaces, enhancing open green spaces and boosting economic opportunities.
The process involves collaboration between local governments, the community sector and the community itself. By combining social, environmental,
and economic strategies, area-wide regeneration aims to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and thriving environment.
The goal is to transform the Upper Springfield into a vibrant, resilient communities that offer better quality of life for residents through the regeneration projects.
Glenmona
The new development will deliver 653 social and affordable homes. Planning has been granted which includes a community centre with MUGA (multi-use games area) pitch, two care homes, a neighbourhood retail centre, a hotel and a children’s play area.
New Hill
This 28-unit social housing development proposal includes provision of new access, below ground pumping station, open space and associated landscaping. Planning was approved at BCC Committee on 19th September 2023. Radius are now working towards a March 2024 target for construction to start on site.
Old St Thomas’s Belfast Met Site
Planning approval has been granted for new houses to be built the Whiterock Road. A new children’s centre has also been approved as part of the planning application by Co Tyrone developers Newpark Developments. Sixty-two new social housing homes will be built on the site.
